FlyLEDs Part Two

I’m writing this almost 12 days late, so excuse the brevity.
I had some more work to do on the FlyLEDs lights I received, so I got to work. Generally, I followed the instructions in The-Works-3-Lighting-Assembly-June-24.

I riveted the nutplates onto the boards, then attached the cups and the heatsinks.

They are starting to look like landing lights here.

Then I snapped the lenses in place.

I did this very carefully so I didn’t damage any LEDs.

Then, spent about 20 minutes mounting the boards to the wingtip boards.

I did notice that one of the cups had a slightly tweaked lens retaining clip. I don’t know if I damaged this or it came like this.

Hmm.

Here are the two wingtip assemblies with the control board in the middle.

From my very last post,
Now how to store it? the FlyLEDs Website says this: “Another customer (thanks Dick!) has tweaked the files to separate the base from the lid.  He presents two versions of the lid, one with the LEDs elevated from the PCB and one with the LEDs mounted flush to the PCB as per the plans. Click HERE for the STL files.”

I then googled who can print me a box from the stl files and ended up ordering from Craftcloud® | Streamlined Service for 3D Printing & CNC Machining.

I uploaded the two files and sent ~$25 and they should be here in a few weeks.

Well, the box showed up.

It’s two halves, nested together here.

I set the control board in the box and it fit PERFECTLY.

PERFECTLY.

Carefully put the cover over the top…

Wow.

I couldn’t be happier with how this turned out.

1.0 hours on the lights, plus the 10-day wait for the 3D box. Oh, and 24 rivets.
