ER Tank Z Brackets and Fuel Pickups

Lots of little things today. First up, I installed some #6 nutplates in the main spar to attach the access panel. Apparently I didn’t take any good pictures of the actual nutplates. But here are 3 of the 6 screws installed. I didn’t do the last two on this side (or the 5 on the top side) because I need some angled nutplates. I’ll explain more when they get here.

#6 screws will be a good way to finish the aft end of these plates.

After a few more work meetings, I decided to grab the 7 z brackets and get the nutplates installed. This was fairly straighforward. Here’s some pictures.

#8 nutplates, some flush rivets.

Here’s a shot of the backside so you can see my pretty shop heads.

Yup, well set rivets, if I do say so myself.

As a summary of the night, I laid out all 7. Let’s see….7 brackets, 6 rivets each…

42 rivets here.

Then, quite late in the evening, my 37 degree tube flaring tool arrived.

So of course I ran out to the garage, flared the two fuel pickup tubes, and sliced some cuts in the aft end (as a poor-man’s strainer, just like the plans say to do).

I think this looks excellent.

And rinse and repeat for the other tank.

Heck yeah! I’m very happy with how this turned out.

I even held the rib in place to see how close to the aft inboard end it comes. Pretty close.

Can’t get much closer.

1.5 hours on the ER tanks. 54 Rivets.

I'm too lazy to fill this out. If you are actually reading this, send me a message, and I'll spend some effort on it.
