Fuel Tank Jig

Well, it’s been a little while since I worked on the airplane, but I cam home today motivated to do something. I still have a TON of work to do on the left wing (rear spar) and the right wing (ribs, spars, and skin riveting), but I know I have a lot of fuel tank work to do.

I decided to tackle a little project for the future. The fuel tank jig. (Jig is the wrong word, it insinuates alignment. This is really just a holder.)

First up, trace a leading edge rib, but with about a 1/2 inch spacer.

Yes, that is shaped like the pointy end.

After finding a couple 1×1 and stapling some outdoor carpet….TADA!

It’s done!

Of course, I had to stick one of the FOUR tanks in it to see if it works.

Yup, works great.

0.5 hours of WOODWORKING, no rivets.
