As I mentioned in Wing Stands Part One, I’ve done this before here (https://rv7aerosports.com/2010/12/29/started-building-wing-stands/) and here (https://rv7aerosports.com/2010/12/30/finished-building-wing-stands/), so I had the general idea of what I want to do, but I’m thinking about some updates.

Here’s a shot of what I had before and my sketchup model of what I’m going for this time:

Today, I had $100 burning a hole in my pocket (no I didn’t) so I decided to grab some lumber and some locking 4 in. casters from the aviation aisle of my local big box store and whip up some wing stands.

I ended up sticking pretty close to my original plans, except I doubled up the long braces along the bottom.

After repeating that first corner three more times, flipping the assembly over, attaching my locking 4-in casters, I flipped it back over.

I had previously made the supports, so all I had to do was measure and drill some pilot holes for the 5/16″ lag bolts I used.

I’m not yet done with the stand. Each of the supports is going to get a small triangular support near its base to stop any north-south and east-west movement. The pre-punched RV-8 wings will provide stability once they are attached, but I’m not happy with the flex in the system yet. a few supports will stiffen that right up. 1.5 hours today.
